Echodyne is investing in additional manufacturing capacity as demand grows for high-resolution surveillance systems across defence and civilian markets. The US-based radar supplier plans to open a large-scale production site in Washington State in summer 2026.

Scaling radar production capacity

The company is committing $40m to an 86,350-square-foot manufacturing facility that is expected to support annual output of more than 30,000 radar units across its product lines. At full capacity, the site is designed to accommodate more than 200 employees.

Echodyne says the facility will provide expanded manufacturing and warehouse space, with production scheduled to begin in summer 2026. The company uses a modular manufacturing approach, which it claims allows output to flex according to demand and supports the introduction of additional product variants.

The expansion reflects increasing demand in areas such as counter-UAS systems, beyond visual line of sight operations for drone-as-first-responder deployments, force protection and border security. These applications continue to drive interest in compact, solid-state radar platforms capable of high-resolution tracking in both air and surface domains.

Focus on electronically scanned array radar

At the core of Echodyne’s portfolio is its metamaterials electronically scanned array (MESA) technology, which underpins its compact radar products. The company positions the technology as enabling high data fidelity and simplified integration into broader security architectures.

Eben Frankenberg, CEO of Echodyne, commented: “We are proud to be opening this new facility in Washington State, the location of our headquarters and a long-time global hub for tech innovation and advanced manufacturing. The extraordinary performance of MESA radar stands in marked contrast to the purposeful simplicity of its design, making high-fidelity radar broadly accessible for defense and civilian safety and security applications. This new investment in manufacturing capacity will allow us to supercharge production to meet the rapidly growing global demand for our products.”
