Myriota joins ETSI to boost satellite IoT standards

Satellite operator Myriota has joined the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) to boost the development of non-terrestrial networks (NTN) for the Internet of Things (IoT).
As an ETSI member, Myriota can now help 3GPP define products which add high quality ubiquitous satellite coverage to all cellular IoT markets. Using these standards in their IoT connectivity platform, Myriota will seamlessly add satellite connectivity alongside existing terrestrial networks using low-cost, low-power off-the-shelf cellular devices and modules.
ETSI is a crucial player in defining the future of telecommunications with standards for LTE, 4G, 5G and NB-IoT. Myriota has 10 years of satellite communications expertise with NB-IoT but is now aiming to work with other members in the ecosystem to drive adoption and expand markets for the satellite-based IoT.
Myriota’s HyperPulse 5G NTN platform delivers low power IoT services, with battery life measured in years, for a wide range of applications across logistics, utilities, and industrial control systems. This uses geostationary satellites from Viasat with beam hopping, activating beams where they are needed at a given time, depending on the current traffic demands. This approach optimizes power consumption in battery-powered IoT devices while significantly enhancing usage efficiency of satellite resources and scarce spectrum.
