Sakuu and SK On team for EV battery manufacturing
Sakuu has teamed up with SK On in Korea for commercial-scale dry electrode manufacturing.
The joint development agreement (JDA) with Sk On will see the commercialisation of the Sakuu Kavian 3D printed battery platform.
Sakuu’s dry-process manufacturing and the printing of electrodes eliminates the use of solvents and enables the use of new processes in battery manufacturing that will enable cost-effective, higher performance batteries that are also environmentally-friendly.
“We are pleased to announce this strategic partnership with Sakuu,” said Dr. Rhee Jang-weon, Chief Technology Officer of SK On. “We look forward to working closely with Sakuu to accelerate innovations in the manufacturing processes for EV battery electrodes.”
“Together, SK On and Sakuu are ushering in a new era in battery manufacturing technology, advancing safety, sustainability, and innovation in battery technology,” said Robert Bagheri, founder and CEO of Sakuu. “With Sakuu’s pioneering technology and SK On’s best-in-class EV battery manufacturing expertise, we’re addressing the core issues facing battery makers today.”
Sakuu has shown dry-process lithium metal cells with 800+ Wh/l energy density of the active cell area with 3C sustained discharge rates and 10C Peak with full recovery as well as 8C pulse discharge.
“The biggest challenge in battery manufacturing today is producing next generation batteries cost-effectively at scale to meet demand,” said Robert Bagheri, CEO and Founder of Sakuu. “Manufacturing Cypress in a fully dry process with the Kavian platform is a key step in enabling high-quality solid-state batteries to be produced in high volume in the future. Leveraging dry printing will enable battery technology innovation to accelerate the adoption of EV’s while eliminating range anxiety.”
